Summer Rugs

Summer Rugs Are Crucial To This Breathtaking Home In India

In the spectacular city of Hyderabad, a home born in a quiet mango orchard uses summer rugs to bring about an amalgamation of color and beauty. In this project, interior designer Sona Reddy was tasked with designing an 8,350 square foot family home for her clients in the city of Hyderabad, India, in a quiet mango orchard, where the mundane colors from everyday life take a step back to give the spotlight to more vibrant, yet simultaneously calming colors. “The curved walls and pink lime plaster surfaces feel soft and welcoming, not stark like a lot of modern homes. The oxide floors stay cool underfoot even in summer heat, and the cane panels do a great job filtering sunlight without blocking it completely.” –Sona Reddy– Interior designer She was determined to turn this home into more than a simple place for the family to live in; she wanted to go beyond and turn this home into a concept, something that became a synonym for calmness and unforgettable moments for this family. Summer rugs are a crucial part of how Reddy’s plan when it came to making this home feel cozy and welcoming, ready to take in a family, along with her usage of other colors, which make for a mixture of vibrant tones and more calming ones. Summer rugs are only a small part of the process of turning this home into what Reddy had envisioned, as a lot of the effort would be focused on what furniture and decor should be used, as well as what colors, shapes, and textures should be chosen to help make the home like the calming, yet endearing, haven that it was meant to become. This living room, for example, exemplifies how impactful summer rugs can be at making a home feel much more soothing and vacation-like, and in this case, the rug’s colors are being matched marvelously with the rest of the colors in this room, more notably the deep purple on the sofa, and the earthy tones in the rest of the room’s furniture. All throughout the home, Reddy wanted to make sure that everywhere felt different, yet coherent and all a part of something grander, which meant that the summer rugs would, of course, be different from room to room, some of them would be a bit more elegant and colorful, while other ones, like the one we see here, would be a bit more minimalistic. The rug in this room matches the artworks being used here, as well as the furniture that is being used, which mostly uses earthy tones and elegant shapes, while keeping the same relaxing vibe that Reddy wanted to maintain throughout the home, through the usage of minimal, comfy sofas and minimalistic tables and furniture. Summer rugs come in all types of shapes, sizes, and colors, and Reddy masterfully chose which to use, whether or not to use them, depending on the room, as well as which type of rug should be chosen to match the room’s specific demands in terms of space, color, ambience, etc… Moving on to the bedroom, we can see a resemblance between the summer rugs that were used in the living room and the one that is being used here, as this one has a very similar pattern and texture, although it features much warmer colors than the other one. This rug’s colors match the soft pink tones we see in the room, particularly in the bed and he headframe, yet the more neutral grays and beige colors we see in the room are also being wonderfully matched by the rug’s colors, giving the room an overall feel of a true symphony of different colors and emotions. This bedroom is meant to provide whoever has the pleasure of staying here with a cozy place to rest and relax, along with a divine opportunity to sleep or simply take a nap after a long afternoon going around the home’s surroundings. This home in Hyderabad, India, is a fantastic example of how to use summer rugs to create an advantageous ambience that fits with your own lifestyle and tastes, such as in this case, for example, where Sona Reddy had to adapt to her client’s needs as a family and create a cozy, colorful environment. Earthy Tones

Earthy Tones Turn A Home Into A Soulful Retreat From Stress

Find out how this home in Austin turned into a relaxing retreat from modern life’s stress by using earthy tones to blend with its natural surroundings. Among a pervasive cluster of centuries-old live oaks in the city of Austin, Texas, a hidden gem lies calmly upon the land, leading a calm yet endearing sight, inviting everyone who passes by to take a moment to gaze upon this true masterpiece of a home, which uses earthy tones to blend in with its surroundings’ ambience. The homeowners, a young professional couple, were rewarded for their patience with this project’s development with a unique and inspiring house, thanks to the beautiful combined work of the architect couple, Megan and Frank Lin, along with the help of interior designer Ann Tucker, home builder Brent Fannin, and landscape architect Brian Pearson. “Designing this home within the trees was a powerful experience. We needed the house to float above the sensitive root zones, so we mapped the trunk diameters and set up critical root zones based on city rules— we also needed to map the trees’ arms, which go everywhere” Frank Lin- Architect The usage of earthy tones in this home is a clear attempt to make this home feel more in tune with its unique and natural surroundings, calming, natural tones such as brown, beige, and black, to make the home feel relaxing and perpetually connected to nature. The dining room, for example, is a great way to acknowledge a feeling of minimal serenity that the home is supposed to emanate, which matches and complements beautifully the emotions that the earthy tones we previously discussed are meant to transmit as well. The choice of earthy, wooden textures on the chairs, along with the smooth, black table, makes the room feel calm and refined, and the painting on the white wall makes the room feel much more sophisticated and connected to an artistic element. In the living room, brown, earthy tones are much more prevalent and end up becoming more of a centerpiece to the room, capturing our attention immediately upon entry, bringing out that close-to-nature feel we have been talking about. The impressive use of a complementary rug gives a more vibrant vibe to this living room, while simultaneously keeping the room calm, yet also a bit endearing through the usage of slightly contrasting colors, such as the clear white used in the furniture and decor. The beautiful rug we talked about before is used to make a soothing transition between the living room and the kitchen, even though the kitchen uses much darker, earthy tones, which make for a slight difference between these two rooms. The kitchen itself is very simple and minimalistic, choosing to focus on functionality and practicality over other elements, although it still manages to use earthy tones to look clear and soothing, matching the home’s overall aesthetic and vibe. There aren’t any notable complementary elements like the rug we see in the living room, although there are still a few elements that serve as decorative elements, such as the flower vase and the plants we see on the balcony. In the bedroom, earthy tones are still the main color palette, although a much more bold and unexpected approach was chosen for the bedroom, choosing much more unique pieces such as the round painting on the wall, paired with the small, yellow glass coffee table, and the brown leather chaise longue, which is beautifully matched by the textured brown rug. The bed itself is very simple, yet it still matches the room’s aesthetic perfectly, leaning into the brown bedside table’s feeling of sophisticated comfort, which makes the bedroom feel that much more like a place to rest and spend some time relaxing and resting up for the next day. This room has a bit of a different aesthetic from the rest of the home, namely because of its usage of a more artful rug with unique patterns and colors, although earthy tones are still a centerpiece of the home’s main vibe, which was maintained in this room through the furniture and decor. The brown sofa is being paired with a grey blanket and a dark-green towel, which also contrasts neatly with the darker-toned brown chair that lies atop the aforementioned rug, which also serves as a means to create a contrast through the usage of color. Geometric Rugs

Geometric Rugs Turn This Palm Beach Project Into a Fun Home

Let’s dive into Jonathan Adler’s amazing Palm Beach project, where geometric rugs made the difference between turning this home into a fun home. For a splendid home that is literally only steps away from the beach, the renowned interior designer, Jonathan Adler, decided that he wanted this home to almost blend in with its spectacular surroundings, which ended up in Adler making a decision to use a more coastal decor style, using geometric rugs to bring out a more dynamic personality to the entire apartment, It was masterfully designed in order to bring out a more artistic glow, made with carefully placed decor elements that complement each other and bring out that coastal, beachside feel Adler is going for. The decor is composed mostly of minimalist furniture, paired with neutral tones, such as grey and beige, with light blue and lighter greens, which makes it so that a sense of breezy tranquility that the geometric rugs around the house help create. Palm Beach‘s surroundings are being fully explored by Jonathan Adler in this home, which he does by using wide windows, pairing the golden scenery with more elegant and pompous decor, featuring gold colors, neutral tones, minimalist furniture, and in this particular room, an oval rug, with irregular patterns and textures, that make it stand out from other geometric rugs. Regardless of the changes in choice of furniture and decor, the same beachside feeling that Adler was going for is still very much present here, meaning that the choices in design style have been successful in transmitting Adler’s goals. The clients, Philip A. Nardone Jr. and Scott E. Peltier, were familiar with Adler’s work, wanted something glamorous and and ruly unique, in their own words: “What you did in your unit is how we’d like to live in Palm Beach“, and according to Philip, “We wanted to dial ours up to 10 Jonathan Adler—full-on foot to the pedal.”, to which Adler perfectly understood the assignement. “Just as a designer wants to be a mirror, reflecting the client at their most glamorous. I wanted to curate my collection in a way that captures Philip and Scott without looking like a showroom.” Jonathan Adler-Interior designer Unsurprisingly, the kitchen keeps up with the zen, coastal vibe that surrounds this home, choosing to keep the same color tones we have seen so far, although choosing a more blue color palette, while investing in minimalist furniture and natural materials. The geometric rugs we have seen so far have been pretty simple and straightforward, and the choice for geometric rugs in this particular room serves a grander purpose of creating contrast and giving a much more refined, sophisticated, and even elegant feeling to the room, which is something that the others did, yet not to this extent. Which means that these geometric rugs have been fitting the home’s overall aesthetic, although they adapt ever so slightly to each room’s slightly diverging ambience and theme, making it so that every room is different and unique from one another. This allows for every room to feel at least a little bit different from the last one, which makes it so that this home doesn’t feel monotonous and repetitive at all. Adler, however, didn’t find the need to use geometric rugs in every section of this home, as we can clearly see in this dining room, where the same ambience and minimalist, beachside feel was kept alive and active, through different means, such as the unique acrylic shark decor, the suave wooden table, and the minimal white, cushioned chairs. The breathtaking view of the beachside is kept present in the same way we saw in the other rooms, as the home’s surroundings are some of the most important features that make this home stand out from all the rest. Lastly, let’s take a look at the hallway, whose centerpiece consists of a geometrical artwork, which makes this room feel a bit different from the rest of the home we’ve seen so far, although it keeps some of the features we have seen in the geometric rugs, namely the repeating patterns, that make us reminsce of the home’s beachside surroundings.  “We’re a fun, creative, curious couple—and Jonathan is a fun, creative, curious designer. We told him, ‘Bring it on. And he did.” Peltier-Client Did you like Jonathan Alder’s spectacular usage of geometric rugs in this Palm Beach project? The Best Brutalist Style Rug Inspirations For A Bold Home

Do you feel like your home is too plain? In that case, take a look at some of our brutalist style inspirations to give a more dramatic feel to your home. When it comes to making a room feel more bold, raw, and dramatic, there are no design styles that do this any better than the brutalist style. The brutalist style makes use of raw, geometrical patterns, minimal colors, and raw materials to leave an everlasting impression, and completely refreshen the room’s ambience. It is often used in minimalist rooms to make sure they don’t feel overly plain and simple, although the brutalist style elements, such as the Tapis Shaped 45 rug we see above, simultaneously incorporate the minimalist style’s love for functionality, and the brutalist style’s preference for drama and bold emotions. Brutalist style is, of course, brutish and has a tendency to stand out in any room, which is why it is so appreciated by minimalist designers, since it easily creates contrast to the room’s overall calm feeling, in this case, using the Tapis Coffee Rugs‘s uniquely hypnotizing pattern. Although patterns are definitely this rug’s particular charm, its texture matches the pattern perfectly, which adds a sense of depth to the rug, which in this particular room is a great addition, as the sofa and the wallpaper’s main charm are their fantastic usage of unique textures to create further impact on whoever stands here. Since it’s a duotone room, the Tapis Coffee Rug was a fantastic choice to complement the contrasting black and white themes that are prominent. Although the brutalist style rugs have all been black and white, other colors are welcome to this design style as well, as they can assist in making the pieces feel more raw and true to the beauty of what the truly essential really is, adding to the room’s beautifully unique personality. In this room, the Tapis Coriander rug almost looks like it’s two rugs that were placed on top of each other, which made for a personalized pattern that defies the rest of the room’s aesthetic, serving again as a statement that the room is out of the ordinary and truly special. While the room has an overall earthy, natural feel to it, these brutalist style rugs go against that, and add a hint of color, along with an unsettling feeling of contrast, that truly impresses and remains engraved in your mind. Of course, rugs aren’t limited to only being placed on the floor, as there are plenty of different rugs that are designed specifically to be hung on a wall, such as the one we see here in this room. While the other rugs have had simpler shapes and geometrical patterns, the Tapis Shaped 29 rug goes beyond those limitations by having a completely different shape and a truly unique design, worthy of being placed in an abstract art museum, thanks to its truly artistic presence. In this particular room, the table and floor are also key features of the brutalist style that this room is following, as they are emanating a very strong, bold presence, paired with the usage of very brutesque materials and patterns. A hallway rug is a fantastic way to create a sense of depth in what is otherwise a very overlooked section in any way, as it serves mostly as a connection point between different rooms. This hallway features an extremely clean, white look on the walls, interrupted only by a small piece of decor hung on the wall, a small chair in the end of the hallway, guided by the hallway’s centerpiece; the brutalist style Tapis Anise Runner rug that features both the clean, plain white that we see on the walls, but also the brown colors we see in the chair and wall decor. While this hallway keeps the minimalist aesthetic it was striving for, the Tapis Anise Runner rug really makes the room feel much more alive, and avoids the overwhelming use of the white we see around the room, while also serving as a great match to the brown chair and the brown decor piece. And with that, we finished our list of brutalist style rug inspirations, which ended up clearing a lot of questions you might have had about how to combine these types of rugs with other design styles, without making things too overwhelming. Layering Luxury: How Minimalist Rugs Define Modern Interior Design, Living Room

Minimalist Rugs Transformative Power: Layered Luxury

Transform Key Spaces with the Bold Impact of Minimalist Rugs In the world of interior design, the foundation of a well-styled home begins underfoot. Rugs not only offer warmth and comfort, but they also visually anchor each room, setting the tone for the design narrative that follows. In this home, the thoughtful use of minimalist rugs adds both function and finesse, with some rooms embracing their soft luxury, and others letting the flooring breathe in clean, open simplicity. Here’s how minimalist rugs elevate and define the home’s personality. Entry & Hallway: Clean Lines, No Distractions The entryway and hall act as the home’s first impression — a transition space that sets the mood for what lies beyond. Here, the absence of a rug is intentional. With wide-plank, pale wood flooring and sharp architectural lines, the space remains grounded and uncluttered. The design choice leans into minimalism, allowing the natural light and sculptural furniture to take center stage without interruption. Simplicity evokes a sense of calm and openness that welcomes guests without overwhelming the senses. Living Room: Sculptural Seating Meets a Flowing Minimalist Rugs Step into the living room, and you’re immediately drawn to the organically shaped, cream-toned minimalist rug that unites the space. This oversized piece, soft but firm in design, follows a subtle, wave-like path that echoes the fluidity of the furnishings. It isn’t just decoration — it’s spatial choreography. The rug acts as a visual border, gently corralling a luxurious arrangement of sculptural furniture: cloud-like modular sofas with pleated textures, cozy armchairs in textured ivory boucle, and oval ottomans in smooth leather. Everything rests comfortably within the rug’s neutral yet expressive frame. A statement fireplace and floating shelves provide architectural rhythm, but it’s the minimalist rugs that ensure cohesion. Its curved form softens the room’s modern geometry, adding a quiet sophistication that doesn’t compete for attention. Instead, it complements. Kitchen: Rug-Free for Good Reason In the kitchen, functionality takes precedence — and rightly so. The absence of a rug here enhances hygiene, practicality, and visual flow. The open layout is punctuated by monolithic counters, sleek cabinetry, and carefully placed bar stools, all of which benefit from a clean, uninterrupted surface beneath. This rug-free approach supports the minimalist aesthetic while maintaining a sense of spatial clarity. The room still feels warm, thanks to natural materials and ambient lighting, but it avoids the visual clutter that rugs can sometimes introduce in utilitarian areas. Instead, the beauty is in the craftsmanship and simplicity of the space itself. Dining Room: A Bare Canvas of Modern Elegance Like the kitchen, the dining area opts for restraint. There’s no rug here either — a deliberate choice that gives the table and chairs a floating appearance on the smooth wooden floor. With floor-to-ceiling windows providing natural light, the space breathes. This open approach allows the dining set’s modern silhouette — sculptural legs and refined upholstery — to command attention without needing a grounding element. The lack of a rug provides for easy movement, cleanliness, and a seamless connection to the outdoor views beyond. Family Room: Bold Color and Texture Underfoot The family room shifts gears completely. Vivid minimalist rugs in deep sapphire blue transform this space into a rich sensory experience. Rather than intricate patterns or ornamental details, the rug draws power from tone and texture — large block-like patches mimic cobblestone but in plush, luxurious fabric. It’s a dramatic contrast to the cool gray Venetian plaster walls and matte surfaces. The modern low-slung sectional, adorned with geometric cushions, hugs the perimeter of the rug, creating a cozy texture and color. A concrete coffee table adds industrial balance, while blue pendant lights overhead echo the tones below. This is where the rug becomes more than just decor — it defines the room’s personality. It’s still minimalist in design — no busy patterns, no fringe — but maximal in impact true testament to the power of a minimalist rug to shape a room’s identity. Bathroom: Follows Function In the bathroom, practicality meets elegance, and the absence of a rug reflects that. Here, high-end materials like marble, brushed nickel, and oversized tiles take center stage. Without a carpet, the space feels sleek, hygienic, and architectural. Towels, bathmats, and storage offer moments of softness, but the overall design language speaks to purity and control. Going rug-free here not only ensures ease of cleaning but also aligns with the minimalist ethos that runs throughout the home. Bedroom: Grounded in Calm In the bedroom, a soft, minimalist rugs anchor the space with quiet elegance. Its pale, low-pile texture blends seamlessly with the upholstered bed and neutral palette, creating a cohesive and calming foundation. The rug’s subtle organic pattern mirrors the curves seen throughout the room — from the sculptural ceiling light to the rounded bolster pillow — adding visual softness without distraction. By extending beneath the bed and side tables, it defines the layout while enhancing comfort underfoot. It’s not a focal point, but a finishing touch — grounding the room in serenity and supporting its restful, refined atmosphere. Minimalist Rugs as a Design Hero From subtle, tone-on-tone palettes to bold injections of color, the minimalist rugs prove their versatility across multiple environments. Whether it’s shaping the living room‘s seating layout, adding richness in the family room, or leaving space to breathe in high-traffic areas like the kitchen and entry, the rug (or the decision to omit it) is never accidental. In modern interiors like this one, minimalist rugs are more than a decorative afterthought. It’s a strategic design tool — balancing visual weight, enhancing tactile comfort, and tying architectural elements together without overwhelming the space. Why Less Is More with Minimalist Rugs This home showcases a refined approach to layering, where minimalist rugs act as both grounding elements and sculptural statements. By incorporating minimalist rugs thoughtfully and sparingly, each space is allowed to breathe, evolve, and express its rhythm. Whether it’s the absence of a rug that speaks volumes or the quiet elegance of one that subtly elevates …

A Journey Through Contemporary Design: Inside A Toorak Home Of Furniture, Rugs, And Light, Living Room

An Inspiring Journey Through Contemporary Design: Inside a Toorak Home

Expertly Mastering Contemporary Design Through Style, Rugs, and Textures This Melbourne home is a vibrant expression of contemporary design, where furniture, rugs, lighting, and textures come together to create warm and inviting spaces. Designed by Brahman Perera, the interior celebrates color, form, and thoughtful layering. Each area in the house has a distinct character, yet all flow seamlessly through a consistent design language. Here’s how the designer shaped each space with simplicity, style, and a strong focus on material and mood. 1. Hallway Hallways often get overlooked, but not here. The hallway becomes a transitional gallery, filled with art, curated lighting, and furniture with flair. Sculptural benches, reflective mirrors, and delicate pendants turn it into a visual journey. A long, richly colored rug guides the eye and the feet, adding softness to the floor beneath. The hallway’s furniture is minimal yet expressive, a narrow console here, a bold vase there. Light plays a significant role. Pendant lamps and spotlights cast gentle glows, drawing attention to artwork and textures on the walls. It’s a subtle, moving space that still makes a strong impression. This is where contemporary design shows its versatility, transforming even walkways into places of visual delight. 2. Living Room The living room is the heart of the home. It shows an eclectic mix of furniture with bold silhouettes and rich textures. Pieces like the Gogan sofa and Fishbone coffee tables create a sculptural, low-slung seating area grounded by a textured rug. This space blends comfort and statement. Layered lighting includes pendant fixtures, sculptural lamps, and soft ambient sources that emphasize the room’s scale. The mix of wool, velvet, and leather surfaces gives the room depth. These materials play against polished timber floors and sleek stone details. Art and curated objects add warmth and a sense of personality. The overall feeling is one of balance—between bold color and soft neutrals, between structured form and relaxed flow. The living room is a perfect example of how contemporary design can feel both elevated and lived in. 3. Study Area Just off the living room, a study space is framed by sliding doors that offer the option of privacy or openness. A sculptural bookshelf and modern desk set the tone. The furniture here is elegant but purposeful. Think of clean lines, solid wood, and tactile finishes. A contemporary desk chair pairs with warm lighting and simple shelves. Accessories are minimal but meaningful: a vase, stacked books, and artistic lighting pieces that double as decor. The rug underfoot softens the room and helps define the study as a separate zone. With its neutral base and tonal highlights, it brings texture without visual noise. This is a perfect space for focus, surrounded by the quiet beauty of contemporary design. 4. Kitchen and Dining The kitchen and dining area is where function meets flair. Custom lighting, like silver pendants and sculptural spotlights, brightens the space with artistic impact. Smooth cabinetry and marble countertops speak to modern luxury. In the dining area, a custom bronze-legged table anchors the room. The chairs, upholstered in rich blues, echo tones found throughout the home. Here, color is used not as decoration, but as a structural part of the design. Textures range from the cool hardness of stone to the softness of linen drapes and fabric-covered stools. Despite the bold elements, nothing feels overdone. This space is all about harmony—an ideal representation of contemporary design in everyday life. 5. Main Bedroom The main bedroom is all about softness and calm. A custom bedhead in deep blue sets the stage, echoing tones from the dining chairs to unify the home’s palette. Linen bedding in natural tones enhances the sense of serenity. A plush rug under the bed softens the stone floor, while wall-mounted lights and a statement pendant give the room a gentle glow. Lighting here is warm and indirect, ideal for rest. Armchairs with curved forms add comfort and elegance. A small table nearby holds books or tea, creating a cozy nook. Every detail is thoughtful and tactile, from the embroidered cushions to the heavy curtains that block out the morning light. In this room, contemporary design expresses itself through relaxation, subtle color, and layered materials. 6. Walk-In Closet Next to the bedroom, the walk-in closet is functional but stylish. Open shelving and custom drawers provide organized storage. The design is clean and linear. Timber finishes warming the room, while soft lighting ensures everything is well-lit without feeling harsh. A narrow bench offers a place to sit or set down clothes. A small rug breaks up the floor’s surface, adding softness and refinement. Even here, textures matter. Leather pulls, brushed metal details, and smooth matte finishes show that contemporary design can be understated and luxurious at the same time. 7. Bathroom The bathroom combines drama with simplicity. Bold marble slabs in jade green or deep grey add instant impact. But it’s the balance of textures that defines the space. The layout is spacious and serene. Mirrors enhance light and space, while open shelving allows for display of beautiful essentials—candles, ceramics, and lotions. This is a room where everyday rituals feel elevated. In true contemporary design fashion, it merges art with utility. The Soul of the Space Every room in this Toorak home is a celebration of contemporary design. Through careful furniture selection, richly textured rugs, bold lighting, and well-placed artworks, the house achieves a rare balance. It is both grand and welcoming, expressive and restrained. This home doesn’t rely on trends—it creates a timeless atmosphere through materiality, light, and form. Whether you’re in the living room or the hallway, every space tells a story of texture, color, and style. Feeling inspired by the contemporary design of this Toorak home? Minimalist Decor

Minimalist Decor Revitalizes This Home In Sydney

Explore this Sydney home’s masterful usage of minimalist decor to bring about a sophisticated, luxurious feel at first sight. Greg Natale‘s Mosvman II is a masterful blend of minimalist decor and material richness, as one can easily tell from the moment you first lay eyes on this home. Stepping into the living room, one is immediately left in awe by the amazing use of minimalist decor to make the room feel clean, sophisticated, and aesthetically fulfilling. The living room is also defined by its usage of neutral tones, namely grey, blue, white, and black, as well as simple shapes and lines, which are a key element that is typical in minimalist decor. The geometric rug in the center of the living room is incredibly simple, yet it blends in beautifully with the room’s main themes, using its simple lines and shapes to its advantage, along with its use of directly contrasting colors, such as black, white, orange, and blue. The furniture itself complements the rug’s colors and themes, making the whole room feel harmonious and well-balanced. The hallway keeps up with the same color palettes as before, adding a touch of glamour to this home by using a few art pieces paired with the same type of minimalist decor we have seen before. The hallway leads to this bedroom, which matches the home’s overall feeling of minimalist luxury, although the bedroom has a unique, individual charm that no other room in this house has, and an endearing sense of relaxation and tranquility that is enough to soothe anyone when they first lay eyes on it. The rug is much simpler than the other one we saw in the living room, as this one only has a simple pattern, with a large blue oval, in the same shade as the blue furniture in the living room. These other bedrooms, on the other hand, chose a completely different approach when it came to designing, opting for a more pastel colored palette, investing in more uncommon colors, such as purple, soft pink, and beige. The choice in rugs also differs a lot from what we have seen so far, meaning that there truly was a change in the way minimalist decor was used for these rooms, from a simpler aesthetic to a much more refined and sophisticated one. The geometric rugs that are underneath the bed are a beautiful example of how an effective use of different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures can easily make a room feel much more dynamic and endearing. That all being said, these two bedrooms are still using mainly minimalist decor and styles to design the room, making it a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the home, which has a tendency to still use more typical uses of the minimalist style. The bathroom is an exemplary continuation of the splendid usage of minimalist decor by the interior designer, Greg Natale, who has been including elements of this style all over the home, all to make this home bring out the emotions of relaxation and livelihood he wanted to focus on. Here, Natale chose to invest in a more black and white, contrasting theme, with a few hints of beige thrown into the mix to create a bit more of a bold mixture of colors. In this room, no rugs were used, although there was a much bigger investment in functional cabinets and console tables, which are also a part of minimalist decor’s philosophy of giving priority to practicality over only prioritizing looks. The other bathroom is opting to fit into the other bedroom’s more soft-pink color palette and aesthetic, by differing a bit from the rest of the home’s type of decor, which involved mainly colder, neutral colors. Color palette aside, the bathroom follows the other bathroom’s choice in patterns, materials, and even in the type of furniture it’s using, which can be seen mainly through the usage of yet another set of functional cabinets, typical elements of minimalist decor styles. This bathroom feels much more dynamic than the other one, namely because of its mix of colors, which results in a much more unique and bold approach to Natale’s work, which resulted in this masterpiece. Did you feel inspired by Greg Natale‘s work in this home in Sydney, and want to try using minimalist decor in your next interior design project? If so, consider looking into Tapis Studio’s impressive rug collection. Source: Greg Natale

Patterned Rugs

How Patterned Rugs Improved This San Francisco Home

Dive into Noz Nozawa’s project in this iconic Rousseau-style San Francisco home, giving it a fresh new personality using patterned rugs. Interior Designer, Noz Nozawa, has always had a special fascination for the iconic, breathtaking Rousseau-style homes that are typical of the San Francisco region. Nozawa has wanted for a long time to reimagine someone else’s Rousseau-style home, so when her long-time clients decided to purchase one, she finally had the opportunity to make her wish come true. Nozawa’s creative process when it came to reimagining this home ended up shifting her focus to using more colors and patterns in the rooms, which is where her usage of patterned rugs became an essential part of her work in this project. Starting off our overview with the family room, we can clearly see that the goal was to make a fun, yet comfortable room, where adults and kids alike can have fun or just sit down and relax for a bit. This is made clear by the usage of fun decor elements such as the star-shaped pillow, animal blanket, but the usage of one of the home’s patterned rugs also plays a very big part in making the room feel unique and lively. A hint of sophistication can also be denoted in the room, mostly from the minimalist puffs and sofa, but also through the simple, yet abstract painting that is hung on the wall. Moving on to the bedroom, Nozawa chose to make a much more sophisticated approach in her choice of furniture and decor, which is also shown in her choice of the rug, which is much different from the rest of the patterned rugs in this home. The choice of neutral tones and minimalist furniture helps this bedroom feel like a relaxing, elegant, and soothing place where you can relax and read a book unbothered by worries from everyday life. Although this room’s aesthetic differs a lot from the rest of the home, it still maintains Nozawa’s masterful use of patterned rugs to create a dynamic and truly elegant environment. As for the living room, Nozawa chose to incorporate a much more contrasting color scheme, one where cold and warm colors can coexist to bring to life a truly unique room, meant for educated relaxation and socialization. The usage of patterned rugs is still very present in this room, and this one in particular creates visual contrast in its choice of colors, as well as in its choice of different overlapping patterns, which all contribute to the room’s ambience. Nozawa wanted this living room to incorporate the main themes that this home has had up until now, namely the unique sense of subtle, yet elegant sophistication that engulfs the entire home, which she decided to capture through the usage of contemporary furniture with a few twists, namely in terms of patterns, colors, and shapes. “These clients and I are willing to shake things up and be freer. Now we’ve created something bespoke to them, and it’s brought real joy to the family.” Noz Nozawa- Interior Designer Unlike the other patterned rugs, which chose simpler patterns and colors, this rug in the nursery is made to make this place as kid-friendly as possible, which resulted in this softly colored rug, with soft patterns that remind us of nature’s sweet embrace. The rest of the furniture that we have in the room is extremely simple and minimalistic, which aids in the creation of the whole soothing yet fun ambience that Onzama was striving for, and also makes the whole room much more functional. Much similarly to the other rooms, Onzama chose to use themed decorations; in this case, she used animal-shaped toys and plushies, which she hung on the wall and placed around the room, making the room feel cute and safe, which is perfect for the client’s children. And that concludes our look into Noz Nozawa’s work in this Rousseau-style home in San Francisco, where her usage of patterned rugs was key to creating the fresh, new aesthetic the clients were looking for. Nozawa’s masterful combination of contrast and minimalism allowed for this amazing project to flourish into the beautiful family it is now. If you feel inspired by Nozawa’s creativity and unique approach to interior design, we recommend you look into Tapis Studio’s wide array of patterned rugs for your next project. Contemporary Chic Decor

How Contemporary Chic Decor Reshaped This Montecito Ranch

Take a look at how this Spanish-style ranch was turned into a family home using a breathtaking display of contemporary chic decor. Contemporary chic decor is defined by its usage of clean lines, open spaces, neutral color palettes, minimalistic elements, natural materials, sophisticated accent colors, statement decor pieces, organic shapes, and bringing about a mixture of old and new. With all of these different elements and techniques, contemporary chic decor has the ability to bring about a sense of minimal sophistication, paired with a cozy, feminine feel, to any room, due to it being a mixture of contemporary design with chic styling. Starting off with this living room, the most prevalent themes are the neutral colors, paired with bold art pieces, minimal furniture, and a very open space, which serves as a great way to make a living room feel warm and inviting. Not all rooms have to follow the same color palette as the other ones, as we can see in this room, where warmer tones, such as pink and red, are being used to further bring out a sense of warmth. This room chose to use a contrasting black and white rug to help bring a unique twist to this otherwise very minimalist room, pairing neatly with the smooth shapes and colors seen on the furniture. This is a very common case in contemporary chic decor, since this style likes to combine newer design styles with more sophisticated, classic ones, resulting in extremely unique rooms such as this one, which are full of personality. As for this coffee table and the room surrounding it, the contemporary chic decor style was a bit leaning more on a modern minimalist side, using mostly white and a darker green to create contrast, pairing once again with minimalist furniture. A fluffy white rug is also helping bring out the comfortable, inviting feeling that contemporary chic decor strives to achieve, pairing with two art pieces, one being a neon sign, much like the one we previously saw. These two rooms pair beautifully in the same home, as it helps the house feel coherent and with an even aesthetic. As for the bedroom, we are once again shifting to warmer, more expressive tones that help bring out that more classical feel that our contemporary chic decor has been hinting towards throughout the house. On top of the bed lies a clear, white blanket that pairs with the pillow and the grey headboard, as well as the light-brown bedside table and decor. Overall, these give this bedroom plenty of personality and liveliness, which is something that, although it is very present throughout the home, also helps make the bedroom feel like a relaxing escape from all the stress and pressure from modern life. In other words, the contemporary chic decor makes this room feel like a safe haven, an escape from all of our troubles. The dining room is possibly one of the most unique rooms in this entire home, and a lot of that is due to its spectacular usage of wallpapers and rugs to decorate and give the room a classical, almost Victorian-like look. Contemporary chic decor is mostly present in its more classical part in this room, but is also very noticeable in the dining table’s and chair’s neutral colors and smooth shapes. It’s truly one of, if not the most sophisticated, rooms in the entire home, all thanks to this unique approach to decoration. The last room we will be taking a look at is this bathroom, which, in itself, is choosing to adopt a more minimalist side of contemporary chic decor, pairing with a very unique and bold rug to give the room more personality. It also chose to use a very uncommon table with the shape of a hand, carved out of wood, to fit in with the neutral tones that are engulfing this room, namely the chalky white and light browns. Although functional and practical, this bathroom remains a sophisticated space, full of liveliness and personalization. Did you feel inspired by this Montecito family home’s spectacular use of contemporary chic decor? If so, consider looking into Tapis Studio‘s options for rugs that fit into this particular style. Stunning Contemporary Rugs Elevate A Greenwich Home, Entryway With Artwork On The Wall, Beautiful Rug And Designer Table.

Grounded in Style: Beautiful Contemporary Rugs Enhance a Greenwich Home

Let´s Explore The Transformative Power of Contemporary Rugs Stepping into this stunning 1903 shingle-style home in Greenwich, Connecticut, is like entering a dialogue between the past and present. The owners inherited a house full of history—original Palladian windows, dentil moldings, and intricate ceiling medallions remain intact. Yet, the home bursts with fresh life, thanks to modern touches and a bold interior design by Amy Aidinis Hirsch. While the house’s architecture speaks of history, the interiors reflect a contemporary spirit. Carefully curated pieces and dynamic lighting blend with the old-world charm to create a living space that feels vibrant yet timeless. A key player in this design story is the use of contemporary rugs, not just as decorative accents but as essential elements that anchor and connect each room. Entryway: A Botanical Welcome with a Touch of Drama    The home’s entryway greets visitors with a lush, tapestry-like contemporary rug under a sculptural console table. Its sweeping floral motifs and rich blues, purples, and soft neutrals provide a stunning contrast to the crisp crown moldings and dramatic doorways. These contemporary rugs act as both an artistic anchor and a visual bridge between the home’s classical bones and contemporary art on the walls. The botanical elegance of the rug sets the tone for the entire house, welcoming guests into a space that harmonizes history with modern flair. Landing: Soft Terrain Meets Sculptural Calm At the top of the stairs, weathered contemporary rugs in muted gold and silver bring a quiet softness to an otherwise sculptural space. These painterly contemporary rugs evoke natural textures, echoing the alpine photography nearby. Its plush surface invites rest and reflection, making it a perfect spot for the family. Paired with a sculptural bench and striking stair balustrade, the rugs soften hard edges and elevate the landing to a cozy, artful pause in the home’s vertical flow.  Dining Room: A Subtle Elegance Beneath the Table  In the formal dining room, a delicate, fan-patterned rug in neutral shades lies beneath the table. These contemporary rugs mirror the organic curves of the De Gournay Japanese Garden wallpaper, softly enhancing the floral design on the walls. The rugs’ gentle texture adds warmth to the rich wood tones of the dining chairs and table. Its subtle sheen complements the oversized Lindsey Adelman Studio chandelier, adding understated glamour that doesn’t compete with the room’s vibrant wall art. Here, the rug serves as a grounding force, blending refinement with a subtle layer of luxury. Breakfast Nook: Graphic Warmth in a Light-Filled Corner The breakfast nook relies on the espresso-toned floor for grounding, rather than a rug, allowing its clean lines and natural light to take center stage. Creamy, upholstered chairs soften the space, while wine-colored armchairs and deep burgundy foliage complement the rich tones in the abstract artwork. This area’s lack of contemporary rugs is intentional, letting the sculptural wood table and the curved staircase detail shine. The room feels both energized and composed, making it the perfect spot for casual meals and conversation. Kitchen: A Stripe of Function and Flair In the kitchen, a slim runner rug in deep burgundy and plum tones slices through the space. Contemporary rugs add warmth and comfort underfoot without interrupting the clean lines of the white cabinetry and marble countertops. Its linear pattern complements the brass hardware, bringing subtle texture and color to a bright, modern space. The kitchen’s absence of bold rugs emphasizes the crisp geometry, showing that sometimes restraint is the best way to honor architectural detail. Living Room: Modern Geometry Meets Classic Architecture Contemporary rugs with a barely noticeable pattern serve as a serene backdrop for a mix of modern and traditional furnishings. Against white walls and large windows, these rugs brighten the space, enhancing the airy atmosphere. The rugs’ understated design allows jewel-toned artwork above the marble fireplace and a deep plum tufted sofa to shine. It softens the room’s architectural lines while maintaining an inviting and cohesive atmosphere. This careful placement of contemporary rugs adds texture without overwhelming the space. Bedroom: Pattern Play with a Cozy Foundation In the bedroom, a striped rug in cream and gray shades sits beneath the bed, extending to the edges of a charming alcove. These linear contemporary rugs bring structure and visual length to a room rich in intricate, tapestry-like wall coverings and ornate bedding. Its soft texture adds a layer of coziness, balancing the eclectic mix of textiles and colors. The rug creates a peaceful foundation, transforming the moody, pattern-heavy bedroom into a warm retreat.   Bathroom: Elegant Simplicity with a Jewel-Tone Accent The primary bathroom offers a spa-like retreat, featuring clean, white marble floors and floating cabinetry. Here, no rugs are present, allowing the herringbone marble pattern to take focus. A deep plum ottoman adds a jewel-toned accent, while organic terracotta vases and lush greenery introduce warmth and depth. The combination of stone, velvet, and brushed metals brings layered texture and sensory richness, proving that softness isn’t limited to textiles. The Power of Contemporary Rugs in Home Design  This Greenwich home beautifully illustrates how contemporary rugs can transform space. More than decorative accents, they ground rooms, connect design elements, and soften hard architectural lines. The careful balance between areas with and without rugs allows both textiles and architectural features to shine. Whether you’re inspired by the layered elegance of this Greenwich home or looking to create your own design story, a contemporary rug can transform any space. Explore collections that offer endless possibilities, from painterly silks to textural neutrals, and discover how a well-chosen rug can ground your interiors with both style and purpose. Earthy Tones

Earthy Tones Give A Wondrous Personality To This Penthouse

Find out how his Potts Point Penthouse got a fresh new, astounding look using contrasting decor, earthy tones, and a lot of creativity. In an environment where most apartments are identical, this contemporary Penthouse stands out with its unique personality and contrasting beauty. Once a boring, cold, and visually unappealing building, it has become the beacon of bold, yet calming design it is now, thanks to Alexandra Kidd Interior Design’s efforts. Skyline Reverie, the name of this penthouse, began with the goal of emanating warmth and luxury through its splendid usage of earthy tones, bold shapes, and peculiar pieces of furniture and decor throughout the penthouse. This living room is a prime example of how all these elements were used to make the apartment feel more welcoming and cozy, somewhere where they can feel truly at home, with a hint of luxury added into the mix. The masterful choice of colors for the rugs and furniture made it so that the earthy tones stood out even more, bringing the whole warm, inviting feeling they were going for even more present in the living room. Along with the mesmerizing view of the Sydney Harbour, the usage of soft, contrasting whites in the walls, floor, and pillars, combined with the earthy tones present in the remainder of the room, brings out a slight hint of an almost vacational feel to the home, along with the tables and chairs on the balcony. The clients had two very different tastes, as one of them preferred bold colors and expressive textures, and the other one wanted a more calm, serene ambience surrounding the apartment, which resulted in a beautiful amalgamation of different styles that ended up pleasing both sides. A quiet sense of luxury is drawn out by the smooth marble in the kitchen, providing a small contrast to the surrounding earthy tones. The tiles depict a geometrical pattern that focuses a bit more on darker colors to further bring upon the luxurious feel that the kitchen and laundry room want to emphasize, keeping the previous efforts to make the home feel cozy present as well. “The forms gently reference the curves of the building’s architecture, but the language is soft, allowing the expansive views to take centre stage” -Morgan Reid, interior designer associate at Alexandra Kidd Interior Design Moving on to the bottom floor of the apartment, we follow the elegant staircase, defined by its fluid shapes, rich use of artificial lights, and inviting nature. “The forms gently reference the curves of the building’s architecture, but the language is soft, allowing the expansive views to take centre stage.” -Morgan Reid It leads directly to the apartment’s office, where earthy tones are still the core of the color palette, accompanied by a few art pieces, new pieces of furniture, as well as some pieces we’ve seen before on the top floor. The office is meant to be a much more formal and serious space, but that didn’t stop the team from giving it their all to make this office as cozy as the rest of the apartment. They maintained the same philosophy when it came to the earthy tones and minimalist furniture, making an effort to decorate the room using the shelves and the shaped rug below the table. Even though the same earthy tones used above are still dominant, there is also a noticeable effort in order to make the office feel different from the rest of the apartment, by using slightly different colors, such as the light yellow on the rug and the dark green in the puff, keeping this room fresh and distinct from the others. As for the bedroom, the same spectacular view of Sydney Harbour as the one on the balcony is available, reminding us once more of the luxurious privilege that is to being able to gaze off into this wonderful sight in the comfort of your own home. The walls and furniture keep the same earthy tones we have seen before, leaning into a beautiful contrast between the bedroom and the bathroom, which is unlike the other rooms we have seen so far, almost completely white. As opposed to the rest of the apartment, earthy tones aren’t very present in this room, making its focus shift to being a more neutral, minimalist room, lacking complex decorative elements and colors. Skyline Reverie is a wonderful example of how it is possible to alter a home’s aesthetic and feel without having to alter its actual structure, serving as a beacon of inspiration for any renovation project. Did you like Skyline Reverie’s transformation using the help of earthy tones? If so, consider exploring Tapis Studio‘s eloquent option on rugs that might complement your next project. Patterned Rugs And Asian Motifs Bring This Luxury Home To Life. The Living Room Combines Natural Materials With Artistic Detail. A Patterned Rug Inspired By Asian Botanical Prints Anchors The Space.

Patterned Rugs and Asian Motifs Enrich Luxury Family Home

The Role of Patterned Rugs in Creating Warmth and Sophistication This thoughtfully designed home blends contemporary European craftsmanship with subtle Asian influences to create an environment that is as serene as it is sophisticated. Across its living spaces, a masterful layering of textures, colors, and bespoke furnishings tells a story of global inspiration. Carefully chosen patterned rugs anchor key rooms, adding softness and cultural resonance to the clean architectural lines.  Living Area: An Ode to Nature and Craftsmanship   The living room combines natural materials with artistic detail. Stucco walls with palm leaf motifs by Romanian artist Stefan Mocanu bring organic energy, while a Christophe Delcourt sofa and aged rattan armchair add warmth and texture. At its heart, a patterned rug inspired by Asian botanical prints anchors the space, its muted ochres, deep greens, and charcoal tones softening the marble and timber surroundings. A sculptural coffee table by Studio KO and a bold Rosso Levanto marble fireplace add dramatic focal points, complemented by slender Garnier & Linker floor lamps and a modern black bench by Valentin Loellmann.  Dining Area: Airy Simplicity in a Social Hub In contrast, the dining area embraces restraint. Free of rugs, the raw timber floors take center stage, amplifying the light that streams through floor-to-ceiling windows. The furniture here champions clean lines and subtle curves, a nod to minimalism, while muted earth tones create a sense of continuity with adjacent spaces.   Breakfast Nook: A Cozy Corner with Natural Warmth   Tucked away like a secret retreat, the breakfast nook invites slow mornings and quiet conversations. The curved banquette seating, upholstered in deep green leather with vertical tufting, embraces a round wooden table at its center. Its smooth oak surface echoes the warm tones of the timber floor, while the sculptural pedestal base adds a soft, organic touch to the compact space.   Above, a striking pendant light made of layered, petal-like forms hangs like a delicate lotus blossom—its shape a subtle nod to Asian craftsmanship. Natural woven shades filter the morning light, casting a golden glow that harmonizes with the soft amber of the ceiling. Potted plants and textured table lamps on either side add vitality and a connection to nature, reinforcing the home’s overarching theme of organic elegance.   Music Room: A Sanctuary of Sound and Style  The music room is enveloped in oak paneling, creating a cocoon-like intimacy that is perfect for reflective moments. Sofas from Pierre Augustin Rose and Czech-designed armchairs by Karel Koželka and Antonín Kropáček circle a coffee table by Joël Savry.   Here, a Tai Ping patterned rug extends beneath the furniture, its sinuous, hand-tufted design reminiscent of traditional ink wash paintings. Shades of slate, cream, and dusty rose ripple across the surface, evoking the flow of music itself. This tactile foundation softens the brutalist cabinetry by De Coene Frères and harmonizes the vintage with the contemporary. A Trizo21 floor lamp completes the ensemble with sculptural simplicity.   Office: A Sculptural Space for Focus and Reflection   The office is a serene enclave that strikes a balance between utility and artistry. Clad entirely in richly grained wood panels, the room exudes a sense of warmth and gravitas. At the heart of the space sits a sculptural desk, its glass top appearing to float above a dark wooden base.    The decor is intentionally minimalist, allowing each element to stand out. A striking wall sculpture—a golden tree with delicate, branching forms—spreads across the wood-paneled backdrop, its organic silhouette echoing Asian philosophies of harmony with nature. The texture of the wood grain creates a subtle visual rhythm, further reinforcing a connection to the natural world.   Staircase: A Textural Journey in Motion    Ascending the staircase is like walking a work of art. A runner-style patterned rug wraps each step, creating a rhythmic sense of movement. The rug’s soft pile muffles footsteps, adding comfort and serenity to this transitional space.   Children’s Room: A Playful Retreat Grounded in Texture  The children’s room strikes a balance between whimsy and practicality. Studio KO’s custom-designed bunk beds dominate one wall; their clean lines softened by playful textiles. Beneath, a cheerful patterned rug becomes a focal point. Splashes of pastel blue, sunlit yellow, and muted coral form a modern patchwork that invites playtime and anchors the furniture.   This cozy floor covering not only cushions little feet but also adds an element of storytelling with its abstract, cloud-like shapes. It reflects the home’s wider embrace of nature and Asian-inspired artistry in a more lighthearted form.   Master Bedroom: Serenity and Sophistication   In the master suite, tranquility reigns. A custom maple headboard frames the sleeping area, while fabric panels by Pierre Frey add depth and softness. At the foot of the bed, a Pampukh bench from Faina echoes the organic forms found throughout the house.   Underfoot, a luxurious patterned rug in earthy taupe and cream grounds the space, subtly reinforcing the home’s cultural narrative. The soft surface creates a gentle counterpoint to the clean architectural lines, inviting barefoot relaxation. A Paolo Moschino-designed chair at the writing desk adds an Italian touch to the room’s cosmopolitan mix.   Master Bathroom: A Sanctuary of Marble and Light    The master bathroom feels like a private spa, enveloped in luxurious marble that stretches seamlessly across floors and walls. The freestanding bathtub is perfectly positioned near expansive windows, where dark blinds filter in dappled light, casting a serene glow across the room. The double vanity, with its slim metal frame and minimalist silhouette, adds an understated elegance, while neatly folded white towels contribute to the space’s sense of calm order. A tall vase of fresh white flowers sits gracefully atop the counter, infusing the cool marble palette with a delicate, organic touch.    Terrace: A Verdant Refuge Above the City   Stepping onto the terrace feels like entering a tranquil oasis suspended above the urban landscape. Surrounded by lush greenery, this outdoor sanctuary offers an intimate setting for morning tea or sunset conversations. At its center, a round …
